Print the unprintable

Thanks to Voxelizer's advanced features even the most complicated objects become printable.

This model is the result of a 3D scan and it presents many critical issues:

  • There are lots of small floating elements;
  • Some parts of the model are way too thin for 3D printing;
  • The model is complex, with hanging parts and small details;

With Voxelizer we can solve these issues one by one.

With Voxelizer we can solve these issues one by one.

First we apply the Remove small objects filter and we get rid of the noise.

Then we apply the Thickening filter with an offset of 0.25mm in order to make all the parts of the model printable.

Now we need to generate some support for the model. Given its complexity, this is a good moment to use one of the exlusive features of Voxelizer, the lattice support. If we were to use a simple support structure we would end up with a lot of material hard to remove and in general with poor quality results. Thanks to the lattice support, we can generate a solid and light structure, which has a minimal impact on the model and that is easy (even fun) to remove. This structure results in a higher printing time but, in this case, it is worth the extra cost.
Note also that Voxelizer will also detect the hanging parts of the model (in this case one leg and two arms) and will add some extra-support in order to sustain it during the print.
